Health & Safety induction
You are required to complete this Health & Safety Induction if you are planning on entering the Northland Field Days event site during set up, pack down and during the event.
This form must be completed by anyone entering the event site, including contractors!
For your reference, below are relevant links to law enforcement agencies that the Health and Safety plan must abide to.
Holes
Do not drill holes in the ground for posts, etc until you have received permission from a Northland Field Days staff and a Committee member has been to your site to see where the posts are going.
This is to ensure that you do not drill into any underground cabling.
Fire Safety
The NZ Fire Service Inspects all sites during the event. You must have an approved fire extinguisher on site that is appropriate for the level of risk on your site.
All fire extinguishers must have been inspected by a certified fire safety agency to ensure they have not expired.
Any gas cylinders in marquees or tents must be under 9kgs.
KEEP FIRE EXITS CLEAR AT ALL TIMES.
Other Hazards
Please be aware of potential tripping hazards for your staff and visitors. Items to pay attention to are cables and hoses laid across open ground, guy-wires from tents, tent pegs extending above ground, and uneven landscaping features.
Finally, have a look around your site for potential snags – timbers or scaffolding jutting out, rough edges to displays, machinery protruding into walkaways, etc…
Please be aware of other hazards related to your display of vehicles and machinery. (sharp edges, hot surfaces, tripping and falling hazards)
Access
Exhibitor Vehicles are allowed on the event site from 6:30am, but must either be parked up on your site(if it is a company vehicle that is part of your site display), or in the exhibitor carpark by 8:30am.
Only approved Northland Field Days Vehicles are to be driven on site during the event.
Vehicles are not allowed back on site, or are not allowed to be driven again until all visitors have left for the day, and an announcement has been made over the PA system.
The speed limit on site is a strict 15km/h.
Demonstrations
Demonstrations of all vehicles/machinery are restricted to Demonstration Areas.
We understand that every potential customer wants a demonstration of your vehicle/machine, but there are several safety issues: collisions, moving parts, noise and dust are obvious ones.
Please contact the office if you want to enquire about a suitable demonstration area.
Hot Sun
Please be conscious of the sun. It can burn and dehydrate you, and Dargaville sun at the end of summer is fierce!
Consider offering colleagues and customers water, sun lotion, a hat or even a seat.
Wind and Rain
Unusual for Northland but the Northland Field Days have been shut down in the past because of high winds.
With temporary structures, lots of light weight advertising and signage collateral, high winds can pose a deadly threat.
The Northland Field Days Committee will announce over the PA system should winds and rain have an effect on the event.
Animals
Remember that animals brought to the Northland Field Days are not domesticated. That is, they may not necessarily be used to close human proximity, and the noise and dust that we make.
Please ensure that if you have animals on your site they are contained in a safe manner keeping the public away from them should they become stressed.
You know that kids and the young at heart will want to pat them and take selfies!
Dangerous Items
Hazardous substances are substances that are explosive, flammable, oxidising, toxic, corrosive or toxic to the environment.
Most hazardous substances will have more than one hazardous property and therefore more than one classification.
If you need help with the management of Hazardous Substances you intend to bring to the Northland Field Days, please make sure to be in touch with the office and we will assist you.
